Capital Group Opens East Coast Hub in Uptown Charlotte With 600 Jobs
Capital Group, one of the world's largest active investment managers with $3.4 trillion in assets under management, officially opened its East Coast operations hub in Uptown Charlotte on September 29, 2026. Governor Josh Stein attended the grand opening ceremony at One Independence Center, the iconic tower at the corner of Tryon and Trade streets.
The Los Angeles-based firm is committing 600 jobs and at least $60 million in investment to the Charlotte hub, with an anticipated annual payroll impact exceeding $116 million. Positions include software engineers, data and AI specialists, investment operations professionals, and global business services roles.
The hub occupies approximately 200,000 square feet across the top eight floors of One Independence Center. Under its state incentive agreement, Capital Group committed to having 600 jobs in place by 2031. However, company leaders indicated after the opening that the space could eventually hold up to 1,000 workers.
Charlotte becomes Capital Group's fourth operations hub, alongside Southern California, London, and Singapore. The company brings more than 90 years of history managing some of the country's oldest mutual funds.
The announcement is part of a broader corporate recruitment wave that has seen Charlotte attract multiple headquarters relocations in 2025 and 2026, including SMBC Group, EG Group, PSA Airlines, and Daimler Truck Financial Services. Charlotte is already the second-largest banking center in the United States, home to Bank of America and Truist.
"Charlotte's deep talent pool in financial services, combined with improved transit infrastructure, has made it a top choice for corporate site selectors," said a company spokesperson at the opening event.
